Missing Sodus

It's still snowing from time to time, but isn't it nice to be in March and not going into January? It doesn't get dark as early as it did and the birds are singing up a storm. I still haven't figured out the squirrels but they are definitely busy. They may be quiet but, at my house, Caesar loves to throw himself at the glass door... and talk about barking! If he hasn't noticed a squirrel, Sarah (the Boxer) will throw herself at the door, then grab him by the bandanna when he barks. (You'd think he'd catch on eventually.)

The Williamson area World Day of Prayer will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Pultneyville Reformed Church on Hamilton St.

Tomorrow, Boy Scout Troop 125 will have a bottle drive at Breen's IGA from 9 to 3.

Along with Springtime come the Spring Classes held by the Kraft Shack in Sodus. The classes fill up quickly, so, when possible, they will schedule other dates to accommodate all their customers. If you have a large group that would like to attend on the same night, please let the people at the Kraft Shack know and they can schedule a night just for you. To be able to keep the classes at a reasonable price they ask that you please pre-register and pre-pay or put a $l0 non-refundable deposit down for all the classes you sign up for. If you see a craft you would love to have but can not attend a class, the Kraft Shack will make one for you for an additional $5. (How nice is that? If I lived closer, I would definitely take them up on it.) Saturday, March 8 from l0 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can oil paint with Larry. Spend a few hours and learn to paint a beautiful landscape scene with a waterfall. $40 includes all. Also: ONE STROKE PAINTING on Mon., March 10, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Learn to paint the one stroke method. The class will teach you several flowers and some nature creatures. $35 includes all. BUNNY CANDY DISH Wed., March 12, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Enjoy painting and decorating this 16' wooden bunny, whose feet and paws hold a dish to fill with sweet treats. $22 includes all.

Sandy from the Kraft Shack has just returned from California where she saw many new products. The new merchandise will be arriving real soon. March is National Craft Month and the Kraft Shack will be having their Spring clean up sale on Friday, March l4 from l0 to 5 with l0% off all in stock merchandise. See more details at www.kraftshack.com

The website also has tips on crafting and answers to your crafting questions.

On March 12th the Wayne County Historical Society is having a Noon Luncheon filled with intrigue and mystery. In reading about it in the paper, it sounds really fun and interesting. The luncheon begins at l2:05 . The Society director is Andrea Evangelist and she will speak about murder and mystery events that have taken place through the years. I was fascinated by the few that were listed in the article. The History at Noon program is at the Old Jail Museum, Butternut St., Lyons and is free. You can bring a lunch; coffee and cookies will be supplied. For more info and to make reservations, call 315.946.4943 or see the website.

Happy Birthday to the people born in March: Melanie Pike on March l0 (I'm not sure but I think she'll be 30 something? Me, too.) and Brian Hooper on the 26th. (Brian, I believe, will be l6. Watch out, Eileen, he'll be asking for the car.) And

The Fairville Lenten Fish Dinners start tonight (Fri., March 7) at the Fairville Fire Hall, Route 88; 4:30 p.m. until ?

The Humane Society will have Adopt-a-Pet this Sunday, 11 - 2:30, at Dicks's Tropical Fish in Ontario. One of the dogs available for adoption at the Humane Society is a female one year old named Darby. You can see her picture (and others) on the website. Also, if you have lost your pet, the website is a great place to begin looking.

We found some really fun stories you can read with your children at the library. If your library doesn't have them, I'm sure they'd be happy to get them for you.

  • The Princess and the Pizza by Mary Jane and Herm Auch
  • Queenie Farmer Had Fifteen Daughters by Ann Campbell
  • Hurry, Hurry, Mary Dear by Erik Blegvad
  • Always Copycub by Richard Edwards
  • Sleepy Pendoodle by Malachy Doyle

If you have stories your children really enjoy, please send the titles along to me at

mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

Please invite your friends to write to me at the column with items they'd like to read about and share.

Have a great week... spring is coming (it has too).
