Missing Sodus I had chatted with Ruth Lennox the other day and the kids had the day off from school because of bad weather. She said she couldn't see across the street. (I hung some spring flowers on my wreaths out front... Spring needs all the encouragement it can get this year.) News from Ralph Everdyke in Florida: March 11th was the annual meeting of the Wayne County people down in Bradenton at Stacy's Restaurant. Betty and Ralph attended with Harold and Jenny Boerman, who were originally from Marion, but now live in Rochester. It was a nice day for a drive. And when they got there, they found a large number of people. Ralph thinks the final count was 360. It was good to see so many people they had not seen for a while. Roderick and Madeline Johnson were there from Sodus. They live south of Sodus on the Hill Road. Ralph said they bring up the column frequently and they mentioned that they had seen his name in it. Madeline and Betty went to school together in Marion. The buffet was good and he thinks enjoyed by all. It will be held again next year on March 9, same place. If the crowd gets much bigger, Ralph thinks they will have to find a larger place to hold it. Spring has come down to Florida also. Things are starting to green up and the flowers are blooming; the trees are getting their leaves and things look nice. Some people don't think they have change of seasons in Florida, but they do. (I, Ralph, am one of those people. I think it's because the weather is so harsh here.) Patty in Maui has seasons, too... hard to believe when you see so much green.
The Kraft Shack is having more great classes: On Tuesday, March 18, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. you can make picket fence bunnies. This trio of 24 wooden fence bunnies are so cute and will make a great Easter and springtime decoration. Simple painting and decorating. $24 includes all. Don't forget tonight's Lenten Fish Dinner at the Fairville Fire Hall from 4:30 until ? Tomorrow (Sat., March 15) is the annual Spring Roast Beef Dinner at the East Williamson Fire Department from 4:30 - 7 p.m. And on Sunday (March l6) the Sodus Center Fire Hall will have a Chicken BBQ from noon -2 p.m. The proceeds benefit the Sodus JV and Varsity Softball teams. You can stay and eat or have take-out. Buy your tickets from one of the players or at the door. On Wednesday, the Sodus Lenten Breakfast will be held at the Sodus Point Methodist Church, 6:45 to 8 a.m. The speaker will be Eugene DeWisperlaere. Have you ever been to the L.W. Emporium in Ontario? They are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and have over l00 vendors who offer wonderful crafts and antiques. When you go, you can stay and have lunch at the Trackside Cafe, walk around the Turn of the Century Village and have dinner at the Branding Iron Steakhouse. There are free train rides through the complex on the weekends (weather permitting, of course). Unfortunately, I lived in Sodus for almost l5 years and never stopped in to see what was inside. I have been told to stop in... that I'd love it. I guess there are many things I need to come back to explore. If you have been there, have you seen the wonderful work done by the Chainsaw artist? Heluva Good Cheese is coming up with a new Spring flavor have you seen it yet? They can't tell you anything about the new flavor but say you're going to love it. The Cracker Box Palace sounds like a neat place. It is located in Alton and is where many sickly, abused, neglected or abandoned animals find a nice home. It was started in l990 by Walt Roloson. You can find out more about them by checking on their website http://www.crackerboxpalace.org/ If you haven't nominated someone yet for the Sodus Town Chamber's Citizen of the Year, it's not too late. Nomination deadline is March 21. Mail your written nomination (along with your name and phone number) to the Chamber at PO Box 187, Sodus NY 14551. The person you nominate must live in the Town of Sodus, but neither you nor the person you nominate needs be a member of the Chamber. Brantling Ski slopes has new Spring hours now: 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. I'm sure there is still plenty of snow. Remember, any info you'd like to send along to the column please don't hesitate. I'd love to hear from you. Have a great week and enjoy the nice weather. Who really knows how long it will stay?
