County Master Plan work continues
The Wayne County Planning Department wants to encourage interested citizens to help write a new County comprehensive plan. The land use plan will help guide elected officials and County employees over the next ten years. Everyone is welcome to participate in any of the following meetings related to the planning process:
In general, the Natural Resources Committee will meet every first Monday evening of the month; the Social Resources Committee will meet the 2nd Monday evening; and the Economic Resources Committee will meet the 4th Thursday (except in March). The Legal Resources Committee will also meet monthly. Please check the County Planning Departments web page www.co.wayne.ny.us/departments/planningdept/wnewplanningdept.htm to confirm meeting times and places, especially during the summer. Citizens may also email Cynthia Hill, Wayne County Master Plan Consultant, at or call (315) 946-5919. The Wayne County Master Plan will be a blueprint for the future of the County. Items on the agenda include promotion of economic development, including agriculture and tourism, as well as the protection of natural resources and development of recreational opportunities. Practically every week for the next year, a citizen committee will meet to assess current conditions and to discuss goals, ideas, and implementation strategies. Committee meetings are open to anyone in Wayne County, anytime. Attendance at previous meetings, although useful, is not required. No special skills are necessary to participate and, in fact, everyone's participation is crucial to the success of the project. Citizens from neighboring municipalities also are invited to attend to foster intermunicipal cooperation. Residents from Monroe County and Junius are already actively contributing. To see on the World Wide Web all features related to the master plan, go to www.co.wayne.ny.us, click on departments, and then click on Planning Department. Minutes and press releases currently are posted. In the future, look for information on model ordinances, links for additional planning information, and opportunities to log in your idea of how Wayne County should look ten years down the road.
