Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

What a beautiful week - definitely felt like Spring was here. I was told by a neighbor, not to get used to it right away. (Does he know something I don't know?)

Many local young men and women are serving the country during this war with Iraq. If you would like to help, I'm sure they would appreciate your donations of sunscreen etc. You can bring items to the Red Cross and the United Way buildings in the city. They also suggested baby wipes. We have to do all we can to support our men and women fighting. (Thank you, Betsy Wahl, for letting us know.)

Sodus School: Tuesday March 25 is the Storytelling Club for Grades 3, 4 and 5. And don't forget the musical tonight and tomorrow at the High School. 'Anything Goes' starts at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

There's a Chicken BBQ Sunday at the Super Duper in Sodus. It's a benefit for the Sodus Baseball Club and starts at 11 a.m. You can also bring your empty cans and bottles to help out.

Also on Sunday is Breakfast at the Church of Epiphany, West Main St., Sodus. Sponsored by the teen youth group, you can eat from 8 a.m. to noon - bacon or sausage, eggs, pancakes, toast and a beverage. And only $3.

AND - also at the Church of Epiphany, there's a Chicken BBQ, 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. or sold out. The BBQ is to benefit Sodus Cub Scouts. You can bring your cans and bottles, too.

A great site to take a peek at is:

http://www.KidsOutAndAbout.com/perrin

It is filled with ideas of fun things to do with the family in Wayne County, it is written by Jackie Perrin and well done. Jackie Perrin, a noted local travel author, is composing an original series of articles for KidsOutAndAbout.com, called Rochester Loves Kids! The series is launched March 17 with the perfectly-timed article, Spring Picks for Family Fun. Thank you to Mary Jane Mumby for sharing this information.

Another fun class at the Kraft Shack on Tues., March 25, 6:30 to 9 p.m. A country cat to greet your guests. He or she requires simple painting and decorating. $23 includes all. Please remember to pre-register if you plan to attend the classes.

To benefit the Humane Society: FIRST ANNUAL BIKER'S BALL PRESENTED BY THE WAYNE COUNTY MOTORCYCLE CLUB Saturday, March 22 at Newark Elks Club on S. Main Street. Buffet Dinner at 6 p.m. tickets are $20 single and $35 a couple (includes draft beer until gone). Not Hungry? Cash Bar and Dancing after 9 p.m. $3 or $5/couple. Raffles - 50/50 - Door Prizes - Cash Bar. Music by Rude Mood. Tickets available from Club Members. Call 589.2699.

Some great books to read to your family:

  • The House in the Mail by Rosemary Wells and Tom Wells (I didn't realize that in the l930's, you could mail order a house. This one is for older children.)
  • The Language of Doves also by Rosemary Wells (Sad but good for older children.)
  • The Prog Frince ( say that one fast 3 times) by C. Drew Lamm (for older children as well).

We love the McDuff Books I wonder if its because of Ceasar being a Westie

  • McDuff Saves The Day by Rosemary Wells
  • McDuff and the Baby
  • Old Bear's Surprise Painting by Jane Hissey

Thanks to everyone who send me information to share and I look forward to hearing from others of you soon. You can write to me at

Have a great week. Take the time - if only a couple of minutes - to enjoy the warmer weather and the sunshine on your face.
