Scudder recognized for water protection efforts

Dave and wife ColleenDavid Scudder, Chair of the Wayne County Water Quality Coordinating Committee (WQCC), won the NYS Special Service award for his voluntary contributions towards the protection of New York's freshwater resources.

A long-time resident of LeRoy Island on Sodus Bay, Scudder said, 'I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the water. I enjoy being a steward of these magnificent resources.'

Given to only one person in the Empire State, this prestigious award was presented to Scudder at the Water Quality Symposium on March 13 in Binghamton.

Scudder has overseen such projects as the final publication of the Watershed Management in Wayne County Book, several freshwater resources conferences and numerous public education activities. He helped to create the popular 'Public Watershed Grants Program' which funds low-income septic repairs, marine pump-out facilities, agricultural water quality facilities and more recently the local grants to municipalities for stormwater protection projects.
