Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and a leaky tire.

Mary Lou Whitman was the weekend guest at the home of her friend, Isabelle Bushart.

Rev. Roger White, Director of the Odosagih Bible Conference in Machias was welcomed at the Sunday morning worship service at the Second Reformed Church on March 23, relating of the work of the Bible Conference.

Isabelle Bushart and I were part of a group that attended 'Travel Expo-New York' last week. We also visited the stately Mills Mansion State Historic Site at Staatsburg, the FDR Museum at Hyde Park and Huguenot Street, the oldest street in America with its original houses.

New band uniforms have arrived; watch for them in a parade this season.

Chloe Anne, daughter of Jake and Heather DeLyser, was welcomed into the Marion United Church family through Baptism on March 16.

1925: Work has begin on the Palmyra-Marion highway, to the great satisfaction of both towns. The road is closed at the halfway point, the Brick School, work thus far being on the south end of the stretch, Marion tourists take one of several routes in detouring to reach Palmyra, the two roads joining the main highway at the NYC depot, being open. People are willing to surmount difficulties if the state road from Marion to Palmyra is really in sight, although it may not be finished this fall.

Rog and Gen Adriaansen have returned to their Mill Street home after spending the winter months in the sunny south, thus avoiding the snowy storms we endured.

Fourth Grade Band Concert will be held April 2 at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School Auditorium. The band, under the direction of Mr. Richard Gigliotti, will perform a variety of musical styles, including the Sommerset Overture, Lost City, Safari Drums Rock and America.

I have found a company that sells replicas of what we call 'Dutch Dogs.' They are Staffordshire Ware produced in Kent, England, in black, blue and red. They fully resemble the ones our grandparents brought with them from the old country.

Chris and Ginny Christianson are back from Florida, where they visited friends and Ginny's sister, and celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 7. Thawed out from a long, cold winter in the 80-degree temperatures.

Thanks to all who attended the dinner at the United Church. Proceeds go to mission work.

Thanks to Mark Haskins for his contribution of a measuring tape from the Marion Produce Co.
