Finally! Spring is here! (Dare I say it out loud?) It's so nice to see the sun and no snow!

flag waving Even though we are enjoying spring, we also remember the war in Iraq. There are many Wayne County area families who have loved ones fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom that we need to keep in our thoughts and prayers. If you know of someone who would appreciate receiving e-mail who is in Iraq please let me know the address and I'll add it to the column.

The winner of the 2002 Sodus Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award is Sandra Hall. You can congratulate Sandra yourself at the Citizen of the Year Banquet on April 11 at the Normandy Inn. Banquet is open to the public, and you need not be a chamber member to attend. Tickets may be purchased at Tracey Fox Law Office (29 W Main, Sodus), WCTA Credit Union (Pam Heald or Bonnie Decker), Northern Wayne (Mike Garlock) or Sue Datthyn at the Sodus Town Offices. Cost is $20 per person. Advanced sale tickets only.

According to a release from the Chamber, 'Sandra is a life-long resident of Sodus who has spent 34 years teaching at Sodus Central School as an elementary teacher surely impacting the lives of many in this community. Sandy is a family role model, along with her husband Bill, raising two daughters, who have also been active in our community. Sandra has been a 'USA home mom' to four foreign exchange students, welcoming them into their home and immediately feeling part of this community.

'Sandy's church (Methodist Church) I believe could not survive without her...She is on many committees and gives thousands of countless hours of service - Praise band, chaperone, cooking meals, to name a few. Not to compete with WATS, but Sandy is often, the driver of many to various sporting, school and church events! (and always with a smile and happy to do it).

'If that involvement is not enough, Sandy is also active in the Lioness Club of Sodus. She has served as past president, and currently serves on the board of directors and is their secretary.

'Any student, church member, neighbor or community member that has ever worked with Sandy, is pleased and honored to know her.
