Word was received of the death of Jennie Hermanet, 106 years old. She had been living at DeMay Center. (See Death notices.) A memorial service will be held May 15 at 11 a.m. at Second Reformed Church.

Reminder: Open House at Hunneybear's May 17 and 18 - from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served featuring homemade cookies. Come in and browse and select the plants and for your garden and landscape.

Tuesday, May 13 - SOC meeting in High School Library at 7 p.m.

May 16 - Vocal Concert at Marion Elementary School Auditorium, 9:30 a.m.

Welcome home to Rod and Helen Adriaansen and to Irene Klaeysen and to Howard and Svea Dahlberg who have returned home from Florida. Thanks for bringing the sunny weather along with you.

Preston Daniel, Connor Richard and Jenna Elizabeth were baptized at the Marion United Church on April 27. They are the children of Rich and Lisa Crego. Welcome into the church family.

May 19, 1917: A bus line has been opened between Marion and Newark by the merchants association of Newark. With the two bus lines between this town and Palmyra, Marion is not entirely shut off from civilization.

The East Palmyra Christian School's Pig Roast will be held at the school (2023 East Palmyra-Port Gibson Road, Palmyra) on Friday, May 23, 5-7:30 p.m. Tickets are limited and reservations are required and can be made by calling 597.4400 by May 21. All dinners include a generous portion of roasted pork, salt potatoes, applesauce, coleslaw, rolls, beverage and dessert. Prices are $7 for adults, $3.50 for kids ages 6-11, and children 5 and under are free.

Senior Citizen Supper will be Thursday, May 15, 2003 6:15 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria, Followed by Spring Vocal Concert. Call Warren Bushart at 926.2409 to make reservations.

We've had a request for bedding for victims of domestic violence.

The Chicken Barbecue at the Marion Lodge #926 on North Main Street, Marion, will be on May 17 beginning at 3:30 p.m. until sold out. Take outs will be available. Adults, $7; Children, $3.75.

The United Church of Marion, 3848 North Main Street, Marion, will have a Chicken and Biscuit dinner with homemade pies on Monday, May 19 from 4:30 p.m. until gone. Take outs are available. Adults, $7; Kids 5-12, $3.50; Kids under 5, free.
