Humane Society Open House

Come join the fun this Sunday, May 18 at the Humane Society of Wayne County, located at 1475 County House Road in Lyons. The annual open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Wayne County Department of Health, in conjunction with the Humane Society, will host a rabies clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. (For your safety and the safety of the pets being vaccinated, it is required that all animals visiting the clinic be in a carrier or on a leash no longer than six feet, and under the control of the owner at all times.) Donations for the vaccination are suggested.

There will be plenty of animals for petting and cuddling. Cracker Box Palace will provide pony rides and a petting zoo. Whisper, one of the Austin Llamas, will be greeting visitors. The Debellis baby goats will be available to play, pet, and cuddle. Visit with the Groot ferrets. And of course, the most eligible shelter residents will be on hand.

See the 4-H Drill Team perform. Learn more about dog obedience from Pawsitively Canine.

Therapy Dog International with Canine Good Citizen certification will be on hand to evaluate your dog. Bring your dog for evaluation and certification as a therapy dog and/or a good citizen. To participate in the evaluation, please bring a grooming tool, the dog's license, and proof of current rabies vaccination. The cost of this evaluation is $10 and all proceeds benefit the Humane Society.

There are many fabulous items that will be going home with some lucky visitor. All the money raised from this event goes directly to the care of shelter residents.
