The Newark Garden Club last year won an incentive grant of $100 to be used for their Erie Canal Memorial Park and Community Improvement Project.

The Newark project encompasses plantings on the South Bank of the Canal between the East Avenue and Route 88 bridges. The current plan is to plant four lilac trees and assorted shrubs in remembrance of four deceased members. The Club plants a tree each year in a public area. The village gave the Garden Club space in front of the retaining wall at the lower end of the walkway ramp.

The trees, from Parker's Nursery, will be planted next week.
