The Information Center building was formerly used by the coal trestle crew of Sodus Point to sign in for their assignments to load the coal into the ships. The coal trestle is no longer there, as it caught fire November 5, 1971 and had to be torn down. The coal trestle was located where the New Horizons Yacht Harbor, formerly the Pier Pointe Marina, is now located. The coal came mostly from the area around Altoona and Renovo, Pennsylvania, by railroad cars to Sodus Point. The ships would be loaded at the coal trestle and then deliver the coal to Canada and Oswego. With its load of coal, the ship Fontana made a round trip to Oswego every 13 hours. The building was originally located in the railroad yards at Zurich, moved to the railroad yards at Margaretta Road, Sodus Point, and then near the coal trestle across from the Franklin House, Sodus Point. In 1994, the building was moved to its present location.
