Driftrider trails closed for season

The Williamson Driftriders Snowmobile club, a group that created and maintains miles of trails in Sodus and Williamson townships, announced that the trail system is officially closed for the summer.

The Club, over 100 members strong, is one of four clubs in Wayne County that help maintain and insure the trails for snowmobile enthusiasts from all over the state.

'It is important to note that these trails are now closed for business for the summer,' said Tim Gulick, Driftriders Trail coordinator. 'We have special permissions from the individual landowners who host the trails that they are to only run snowmobiles during the winter months. Wheeled vehicles such as ATVs and motorcycles are not allowed to use the trails with out permission from the individual landowners.'

The insurance policies that the Club provides for liability only covers snowmobiles, so ATV and motorcycle operators could be liable for any property damage that results from their use on the trails.

'It's a delicate balance we have with the landowners,' said John Faulks, President of the Driftriders. 'We have worked very hard over the years to cultivate the relationships we have with our landowners and were dedicated to keeping them happy to keep our trails open in the winter. Unauthorized use of the trails jeopardizes what we have worked so hard to develop.'
