Pat Allen was a recent patient at the Strong Memorial Hospital.

The Scarlet Thread's annual Roadkill Cafe is coming November 14 and 15. This year's country-style dinner theater will feature food, comedy sketches, and music. Hear country music songwriter Don Stock (Donnie's Dad). He has had songs recorded by Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, Red Sovine, and others. Your homemade pies, muffins, and breads would be helpful. Call Amy Davis (926.0506) for location and to donate.

November 8, 1913: Pipes for the water works are laid on nearly every street in town. The cement reservoir in Prospect Hill is nearly completed and there is a good prospect of the work of installing a water system before cold weather.

Clark and Helen Dingman traveled to Texas in early October to visit their children. Their first stop was in Austin to see their daughter Patricia (and Randy) Ellis. They enjoyed spending time with the three granddaughters: Tarra, McKenzie and Devon. It was a treat to see Tarra, the eldest, play in a soccer game at the Select level. Next stop for Clark and Helen was San Antonio, home to son Stephen Dingman, where the family celebrated three birthdays together: Stephen's, Randy's and Devon's.

'Pumpkin Time' at the Marion Museum was well received. One of the treats tried and enjoyed was Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake. An easy recipe and good tasting!

  • Grease 9x13 pan.
  • 1 package plain spice cake mix (or one yellow cake mix and 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice)
  • Set aside 1/2 cup cake mix for filling
  • Blend remaining cake mix, 4 T. melted butter and one egg for two minutes. Then pat batter over bottom of pan.
  • For the filling place two (8 oz.) packages of softened cream cheese and one (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk in bowl and blend. Add reserved cake mix and remaining three eggs, one cup canned pumpkin,1/2 cup light brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg and 1/4 tsp. ginger. Pour the filling onto the crust. Bake until it looks shiny and center no longer jiggles - 40 to 45 minutes.
  • For a topping place one cup sour cream and 1/4 cup light brown sugar over cheesecake and bake until topping sets, 7 to 10 minutes. Chill for at least one hour, but preferably 24 hours for the flavors to meld.

'Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts.'
