Missing Sodus

fall scene

It was nice to have a couple more nice days, wasn't it? Halloween night couldn't have been more perfect. It was actually warm. There was no snow, down-pouring rain and the kids could wear the outfits without the big coats under them. (It's ok if your outfit is the Hulk or a superhero but a princess just can't be that bulky.)

Ralph and Betty Everdyke had a busy weekend. News from Ralph:

We took a 300-mile drive for lunch on Sunday is all. We drove to Cocoa and picked up Betty's brother, Howard Van Kouwenberg and his wife, Betty. We then went to lunch on Merrit Island so we were almost to the Atlantic Ocean but not quite. We had a nice visit and the drive was not too bad. We left at 8 a.m. in the morning so the traffic was not too busy, however in the afternoon when we returned it was quite busy on the main highways. When I went to fill up with gas this morning I found the price has dropped to $1.349 so that was kind of nice. I imagine the prices up there are higher. Sunday night after we got home we were called upon by Pauline Zacharilla and her daughter, Mary. Pauline lives in the complex with us and her daughter was on a short visit with her from Pittsburgh PA. Another nice visit. I correspond with Mary on the Internet. She and her husband had to get back to work so they flew out early this morning. They have two sons who are both in college.

I chatted with Eileen Hooper Sunday night, we have been playing phone tag for weeks. Eileen's mom, Betty just came back from going on a cruise with a friend. (You go, girl.)

The Sodus Chamber is making plans for next year's Olde Thyme Country Faire to be held in Sodus on July 23 and 24. The weekend will start off on Friday with the popular Pet Parade, and a street dance. Saturday will have a full day of antique cars, courtesy of the Sodus Fire Dept., community yard sales and various vendors, ranging from antiques to zucchini, at the WCTA parking lot. For more information on participating call 315.483.7256 or 315.483.4067.

Don't forget, tonight, the Sodus Point Fire Dept. will be having a Turkey Party at the Hall at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow (Sat., Nov. 8) is the Annual Craft Sale at Wayne Central Middle School, Route 350, Ontario Center. The show is sponsored by the Lincoln Ladies Auxiliary. There's also a Holiday Open House at Blueberry Knoll Country Gift Shop, 8137 Bayless Rd., Sodus Point. An array of holiday ornaments, decorations, hand-crafted items, primitives, snowmen, Santas, angels, Salmon Falls Stoneware, bears, dolls, bunnies and more! Pine furniture/accent pieces, candles, afghans, pillows, quilts, baskets and more. Free refreshments and door prizes. The sale starts at 10 a.m.

Tomorrow and Sunday is a Holiday Open House at Salmon Creek House, 4135 Lake Road, Pultneyville.

Also on Saturday: Craft Show at North Rose-Wolcott High (follow signs on Rt. 104); 9-3 p.m. A great way to find presents for those on your Christmas list.

fall scene Roast Beef Supper at Sodus Center Fire Hall, 4:30 p.m.

Turkey Party at the Alton at the Fire Hall, 6:30 p.m.

At the Kraft Shack: GINGERBREAD GIRL, Mon., Nov. 10, 6:30 to 9 p.m. This 2-foot tall gingerbread girl is painted then decorated with a collar, cinnamon heart, bows and a garland of material strips and cooking utensils. $29 includes all. ONE STROKE PAINTING, Wed., Nov. 12, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Learn to paint a snowman, star and pine tree on a wooden birdhouse shape. $30 includes all.

It's tough to see the vibrant leaves disappear already but now we go to the next season. The carved pumpkins can be put away, but the regular pumpkins could still be left out. After all, Thanksgiving is all about the harvest, right? Leave out the basket of gourds and the fall leaves if you had the artificial ones out. Maybe add some fall flowers like Stonecrop to the wreaths to add some color and a rustic look; cat tails or any plants that you may have in your gardens will be fine.

Thanks to everyone who sent information to me to add to the column. It is greatly appreciated. It is helpful when people send along things. I can be more informed on what's going on in Sodus and the Wayne County area, then share with readers. Have a great week and remember if you have things you'd like to have added to the columns please write to me
