veteran's day Veterans Day events in Newark

The Veterans Day parade in Newark will form on East Union Street across from the VFW Post at 10:30 a.m.

The parade moves on E. Union St. to N. Main St., south to Central Park. There will be a recognition of veterans by Fred Pirelli, Lt. Col. (USAR) and an invocation by the Rev. Tim Johnson, Pastor, Park Presbyterian Church.

The Newark Volunteer Fire Department will sound horns at 11 a.m.

Guest Speakers will be VFW Commander Post #2883 Fred Galtieri and American Legion Post # 286 Commander Doug Wischoff.

Special guests included Gold Star Mother Dolores Wagemaker, whose son, Sgt. John R. Marsh (USMC) was killed in Vietnam; 8th District Commander James Rooney; VFW Auxiliary President Post # 2883 Pat VanDemortel; American Legion Auxiliary President Post # 286 Sharon Poison; SAL Wayne County Commander, Tom Kurk; Sons of the Legion Commander Post # 286 Tim Casselman; American Veterans Support Organization President Fran Lauferswiler; and Aux. President Ida Mae Bump.

The Newark High School Band will play The National Anthem as Robin Uveges sings.

Following the ceremony, there will be an open house and refreshments at both the VFW Post #2883 and American Legion Post #286.
