Veterans Day in Lyons

Not many ventured out into the cold, wind and rain this morning for Veterans Day services in Lyons Village Park.
Peter Stirpe, Commander of American Legion Post 227, asked all present to remember Army PFC Phillip Bauer, who is in serious condition after a missile attack last week just west of Baghdad. Bauer and 19 other servicemen were injured and 16 killed when their helicopter was hit.
Stirpe also mentioned Army Spc. Matthew Horton of Lyons, who was wounded in Iraq in July. (Horton's father, Robert, is pictured second from right in the Color Guard.)
Following the brief ceremony in the park, all were invited to the Legion for lunch.
