Apple commercial filmed in Williamson
The 30-second commercial will be running throughout November in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton and Elmira markets. The commercial was filmed last month at the Original Candy Kitchen on Old Ridge Road in Williamson, owned by Mary Kostakis. Diner employees like waitress Jonalee Hilliker appeared as extras in the ad and assisted in the production. The commercial focuses on products made with New York apples such as cider, sauce and baked apple pies. Since clear apple juice often contains apple concentrate from China instead of local apples, apple juice was not promoted in the spot. The concept of the ad features a diner waitress revealing that the secret to the diner's great pie, homemade applesauce and delicious cider is using fresh local apples. The new ad follows the same 'How do you like them apples' theme of the association's other two TV commercials, which have been airing around the state since last year. The diner was chosen from 10 locations evaluated by the production company, Crystal Pix of Fairport and the advertising agency, Mason Selkowitz Marketing also of Fairport, 'The diner met all of the criteria we were looking for, hometown feeling, fresh, quality,' said Jim Allen, president of the New York Apple Association. 'Mary Kostakis and the diner staff were extremely accommodating and we are grateful for their cooperation.' Because Wayne County is the largest processing-apple producing county in the nation, it was only fitting that the ad was filmed within county lines, Allen said. Processed apple products account for roughly 50 percent of apple crop utilization. The ad is part of a $500,000 advertising campaign, partially funded through a grant from the New York State Legislature. In addition to television advertising, the association is advertising on radio, in national magazines and on billboards in the New York City area. Copyright
