With the weather, we never know what to expect. All the fall decorations blew down and it was tempting to hang up the Christmas ones. Just something about chasing around baskets with fall leaves, flying chairs and rolling pumpkins at 2 in the morning in the pjs just isn't what anyone would imagine they'd be doing. Made me wish I had less 'stuff' to blow around. Every day brings a new surprise. (And I used to like surprises, too.) Janet Lesschorn and family will be adopting a new member into their family. They pick up their little Shih Tsu puppy the day before Thanksgiving. She sent me pictures he is adorable. Jacob Spencer has advanced from a Sea Bee to Builder First Class (e-6). He said the weather where he is stationed has been great - a low in the eighties at night. He is excited about being able to come home for Christmas this year. It has been three years since he's been home for the holidays. I think we could have a dusting of white for him, but it takes way too long for 3-plus inches to disappear. Congrats Jake on all of your good news. Join the holiday fun at Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo for the annual Breakfast with Santa event on December 6, 7, 13, and 14. Congratulations to them. Ralph and Betty went to a nice restaurant called Catches that overlooks the Gulf. He said there were dozens of pelicans hovering around. There was a place that has fishing trips next to the restaurant and a boat came in and they were cleaning the catch. The pelicans were hoping they would get some of the scraps thrown away. When we are having gloomy days here it's so nice to hear about the sunshine and view of the beautiful Gulf that Ralph and Betty are enjoying. He said they go to Tarpon Springs sometimes and down there are a lot of fishing boats coming in. The pelicans are down there in big groups. Funny to watch them. Pretty soon, the Christmas decorations will start showing up in Florida.. Maybe now that Ralph has his digital camera, he can send us some pics of the Florida lights.
Did you ever wonder where Heluva Good got its name? In 1925, Perry Messinger, the founder, began selling homemade washed curd cheese out of his store in Sodus, NY. Legend has it that a salesman traveling through Sodus stopped by the store, he sampled a wedge of Messinger's washed curd cheese and declared, 'That's a hell of a good cheese!' Messinger thought the name was a perfect fit and Heluva Good Cheese was born.
