The kids are all happy this week they only had to go to school for three days. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (and now come the weeks of turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, hot turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, and the list goes on and on).

Did you know the Poinsettia plant is indigenous to a region in Mexico and that there, they bloom through December. It must be beautiful to see them in bloom as they cover the mountainsides and grow up to l6' height. For more information on the poinsettia plant and how to keep them going through the season (and then some), visit http://www.lowes.com

Did you know that the poinsettia plant is not poisonous to humans, but if you were to eat one, you could get a stomach ache and could also cause you or your pets to get a rash around your eyes and mouth?

News from Brantling: We'll be making snow soon! The weather forecast is looking promising for an earlier start for what is expected to be a great ski season. We will make snow if the temperatures continue to get as low as they have been recently. Everyone at the ski area is preparing for an early opening so stay tuned!

Don't forget the special carousel program at the Sodus Library will be today at 3. I understand the Library has a giraffe? I got this recipe when my son was in Mrs. Lawerence's Kindergarten class...a long time ago.

Wacky Cake

  • 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes
  • do not grease the pan-use bread loaf pan
  • Sift together:
  • 1 l/2 C flour
  • 4 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 tsp soda
  • add:
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 Tbsp oil or melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice
  • add gradually 1 cup cold water
  • Mix together put into loaf pan...test the cake depending on the oven, it could take longer...then frost or sprinkle with confectionery sugar.

If you have a favorite Christmas story please let me know; or any favorite Christmas movie. I think they both help to get people in the spirit. A cookie or cake recipe are welcome as well. Going anywhere for the Holidays? Write to me at:

Enjoy your week and each other's company. Now is a good time to start the popcorn chains, borrowing Christmas movies from the libraries and sharing cute stories. Advent calendars are always fun for the kids.
