'Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who put them into action are priceless.' History note: Most often we use the name Holland, rather than the official name, 'The Netherlands.' A letter addressed either way will arrive at its desired destination. In early times, Holland was the name of only one province but it was the country's largest and richest. In time, the name became applied to the entire country. The city of Amsterdam was in Holland province. In more modern times, Holland province was divided into two provinces, North and South, with Amsterdam in the North and Rotterdam in the South. Rotterdam is one of the world's largest seaports. It is near to where our ancestors lived so that most emigrated from Rotterdam. The name Holland is said to have grown out of an old word meaning 'hollow land' - below sea level. Roughly, one-third of the country has been reclaimed from the sea. It's PUMPKIN TIME. The bright, orange spheres are showing up everywhere. In the fields, at the grocery store and at the farm markets. In celebration of this time of the year, I am having the Marion Museum open on Wednesday, October 29 from 1 to 3. I have collected a few pumpkin recipes which will be available for your fall entertaining.
