Shed plans pie weekend The Apple Shed is celebrating its 30-year anniversary by hosting an exciting event. Visit on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 for the first Pie Weekend. Festivities will start on Saturday with a Fruit Pie Baking Contest and finish on Sunday with a Pie Eating Contest. There's no age limit or entry fee to participate in the Pie Baking Contest. All pies must be made with fruit filling and a homemade crust. No cream, meringue or custard pies are permitted. There will be no more than one entry per person and professional bakers are not allowed to enter. The recipe is required to be with the entry and may be used in a future cookbook. Please bake pie in an 8' or 9' disposable pan. Do not write your name on the pan. A participant number will be assigned at registration. Registration for the Pie Baking Contest is from 2 to 2:45 on Saturday. Judging will take place at 3. Judges will determine winners based on pie taste, appearance and consistency. Cash will be awarded to 1st-5th place finishers. The Pie Eating Contest is for all ages and will be divided into two categories: Ages 12 & up or 11 & under. Contestants will be declared a winner when the first participant finishes a whole pie. The catch? The older division gets to use forks and hands. The younger kids must have hands behind their backs. Registration for the Pie Eating Contest is from 2 to 2:45 Sunday. The contest will start for ages 12 & up at 3; 11 & under will begin at 3:30.
