The Mother of Sorrows Church is sponsoring a Liberian family who were living on the Ivory Coast in Africa. The family has l4 people, eight children ranging from the ages of one year to seventeen years old. I had the opportunity to meet them and found them to be friendly and appreciative. The Church will sponsor the family until they are able to get on their feet and take care of themselves. What a wonderful opportunity for this family to be able to come to the US and live in peace and freedom.

Ralph and Betty Everdyke are now safe and sound in their home in Florida. He said the other day they were driving down 301 near Dade City and they saw cows in a pasture up to they stomachs in water. Florida has gotten a lot of rain the past few months. I could be wrong, but I think he and Betty will be longing for snow before too long (.....yeah, right!) Ralph sent along this picture of the two women who tend to the lawn work down there - Melody Bailey and Susy Canniff.

Ralph writes: We left Newark at about 6 a.m. on Wed morning. Our 1st stop was in Lewisburg, PA for breakfast at the Country Cupboard. Got there about 9:15. Our next stop was in Marysville, PA for gas. $1.55 per gal. After a couple of stops to stretch our legs, we stopped in Falmouth, VA for gas at 2:35 p.m., $1.49 per gal. We arrived in Rocky Mount, NC at 5:15 p.m. - 598 miles for the day. Stayed at Shoney's Inn. $41.43 for the nite by using AARP. Next morning we left at 5:20 a.m. It was clear and 51 degrees. We stopped for breakfast in Santee, NC at 8:55, filled up with gas, $1:30 per gal. Got to the Florida border at 12:35 p.m. 78 degrees. Stopped in Citra, FL for gas, $1.46 per gal. Arrived in New Port Richey in front of our condo at 4:55 p.m. - 687 miles for the day. Total of 1285 for the trip. Unloaded the car and went to Niko's for dinner. Prime Rib, salad bar, baked potato, Steak tips over noodles and soup for the boss and 2 Manhattans, with a cost of about $20 including tax. Then we came home and went to bed. All together, the trip was quite good. They were predicting rain in Harrisburg but all we had was a sprinkle. Good driving most of the way with no problems. Of course a great deal of the way the speed limit was 70 and everyone was driving 75 so that is why we made such good time. Never held up by construction which was also a great help.

With our busy lives, we sometimes forget there are many families who have loved ones still in the Middle East. Once in awhile, say a prayer for their safe return home.

If you have events that you would like to share, please send them along to me at

Thanks to everyone who sent me things this week. It's probably time to get out those sweaters and sweatshirts (for some fall fun with the hayrides, leaf peeping and looking for the perfect pumpkin.) Have a good week.
