NYS Trooper exams

Applications are available for the statewide Trooper examination and unveiled a new on-line application process to reach a broad base of potential applicants.

Exams are scheduled for March 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2004, and will be offered at several locations.

The on-line system is especially beneficial to those who may be temporarily out-of-state because of college or military service. Two new on-line convenience features now allow the processing of credit card payments for the application fee and offer the ability to select a specific test center and exam date.

This eliminates the need to mail an invoice and a money order to reserve a seat at the exam and provides the applicant with immediate confirmation of the exam seat reservation.

Some of the specialized areas of expertise include positions as: Crime Scene Evidence Technicians; Field Training Officers; K-9 Handlers; Firearms Instructors and Motor Vehicle Accident Reconstructionists. Troopers are also eligible for assignments to specialized details and units including: the NYSP Motorcycle Detail; State Police SCUBA Team; the State Police's elite Mobile Response Team and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

Troopers may also pursue assignments as plain-clothes investigators in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation or work undercover in narcotics and special investigations units or a variety of other specialized units.
