Celebrating the first female minister in U.S. Butler Historical Society presents Antoinette Brown Blackwell, 150th anniversary celebration. She was the first woman ordained as minister in the United States. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Lighthouse community Fellowship, Route 89, South Butler. Keynote speakers will be Elizabeth Cazden of Manchester, NH, author of, A Biography of Antoinette Brown Blackwell; Billie Luisi-Potts, executive director of the women's hall of fame in Seneca Falls, 'Opening the Way for Women of the Clergy;' Cynthia Cuddeback, Andrea Felker, Sharon DelVecchio will present 'Letters Among Friends' - a dramatic reading of letters between Lucy Stone and Antoinette Brown. This event is free and open to the public. Antoinette Brown was ordained at South Butler on September 15, 1853 as the first woman minister in the US, and later married Samuel Blackwell of Cincinnati. During her life, she lectured with suffragists, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Historic marker to be unveiled after the program.
