Missing Sodus

coleusHow did everyone's first week of school go? Everyone seemed to adjust very well and the weather stayed nice, so the sweaters and heavy jackets could be left in the closets.

U-Pick Apples at Alasa Farms, 6450 Shaker Road, Alton: Pick your own apples daily from semi-dwarf trees. Fun for the whole family! Includes a visit to the orchards and to the farm for hayrides, farm tours, animals, nature trails and a gift shop. Bring your picnic lunch and make a day of it. Don't forget your camera. Groups, clubs, scouts, schools are all welcome.

The Fall Foliage Train rides are on Saturdays, October 4 & 11, and Sundays, October 5, 12 & 19. Two departures each day from Sodus, but be sure to get your tickets early. Purchase before September 20 & receive a $1 per ticket discount: Adults $11 Children, 3-18, $7. Children under 3 ride free if seated on adult lap. Purchase tickets at Wegmans. Trains have snacks and restroom facilities. There will be two departures a day. You should be a half hour early to the train ride. Enjoy a trip back in time! Two-hour train ride from Sodus to Newark. Fun for the whole family! Noon and 2:15 p.m. This 90-minute round trip, uses former New York Central Stainless Steel Empire State Express railroad passenger cars.

Kraft Shack class news: WILTON CAKE DECORATING COURSE I Four nights, Must attend all four nights - Tues., Sept. 16, Tues., Sept. 23, Tues., Oct. 7 and Tues., Oct. 14, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Learn how easy it is to decorate your own cakes for those special occasions. $40 includes course I kit; some other supplies are extra.

ONE STROKE PAINTING is Wed., Sept. 17, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Learn how to paint sunflowers, leaves and vines on a wooden tray. $30 includes all. In order for the Kraft Shack to keep classes at a reasonable price, they have to insist that you pre-register and pre-pay or put a $10 non- refundable deposit down for all classes.

sailboat Head, Heart, Hands, Health 5K Race will be held at the Apple Shed in Fairville on Saturday, September 20, at 9:30 a.m. Kids run at 10:45 a.m. The 5K cross-country course includes varied terrain through the orchard and woods at The Apple Shed. Come and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage! Entry fees are non-refundable. Through Sept. 19 $12; Race Day $15. Kids Run, Free to children.

The Ducks Unlimited Dinner is tonight at the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club. Let me know if you go.

And remember that tomorrow morning is the S.O.S. Shoreline clean-up. Meet at Gilligan's at 9 a.m.

Tomorrow afternoon is the African-Caribbean Festival at the Sodus Primary School. Be there at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Mexican Fiesta also begins at 3.

Sunday morning, the Church of Epiphany Teen Youth Group will hold a Breakfast from 8 to noon.

Also on Sunday - the Vintage and Classic Snowmobile Show at Cinelli's on Lake Road.

Next weekend is the Pultneyville Community-wide Garage Sale.
