Missing Sodus We were so lucky Hurricane Isabel had run out of steam before it got up here. My kids kept watching the news, hoping once again their school would be added to the list of school cancellations. Ground Breaking at the Zoo. Ground was broken last Thursday at Seneca Park Zoo for the Animal Health and Education Complex. The building will house an expanded animal hospital as well as classrooms, offices and exhibit space. The new facility will allow the public to view some medical procedures and learn more about our animal care process. The facility helps the zoo meet the USDA and American Zoo and Aquarium Association requirements for hospital facilities as well as educational programming. The education space within this new building will allow the Zoo Society to continue to meet the needs of over 40,000 children from a nine-county radius. We will be able to offer multiple age programs at the same time with the additional classroom space. The zoo serves as an extremely important resource for the entire community, by educating young and old alike about the environment and the imperative conservation efforts locally, nationally and internationally. A brick campaign has been launched to raise money to support the educational messages within the building and to purchase exhibit and classroom furnishings. Your brick purchase is 100% tax deductible. If you sign up to purchase a brick by February 15, your brick will be in the ground on opening day. There is also naming opportunities for both floors of the two story building and the entire building.
