Museum asks for Rose Gardens postcards Wayne County Historical Society volunteers Sheldon King, Bob Tyler and Kathleen Tyler are organizing the picture and postcard collections at the Old Jail Museum in Lyons. Most of the postcards and pictures that are owned by the Society have been placed in sleeves and then in file folders. The folders are filed by name of the specific communities and by subject under that name for easy retrieval. The volunteers have found only three postcards of the Jackson & Perkins Rose Gardens in Newark. The gardens were open to the public from June to September each year, and some 600,000 guests visited the grounds during those months annually. During this time many postcards were published, displaying various shots of the grounds and visitors walking amid the blooming roses. In an effort to complete and enhance the collections, the Society is asking anyone who has any extra Jackson and Perkins postcards to consider donating them to the Society. All donations to the Historical Society are tax deductible. Call 946.4943, Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 or Saturday noon to 4. Copyright
