Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

It is so nice to see the sun once in a while. (Maybe I need a sunlamp.) Spring is finally on the way. The house wrens have built their nest in my grape vine wreath by my front lamp so we hope to hear the song of baby birds in the future. Of course, the wreath is now permanent until they leave, and for now, we just feel guilty every time we come and go because we scare the parents when we open the front door. The other day, I filled up the bird feeder and looked back to see a doe eating the seeds. (I wondered where it was going so fast.)

Sodus Chamber: Andrew Ramsey is heading up the Sodus Point Family Fest Movies again this year. Movies will start on July 17 and they are also looking for vendors. There will be a movie the night of the Faire. He also has set up a toll free number for various groups to use if they choose. The toll free number is 866.sodusbay (866.763.7229) and will have different mailboxes for different organizations to use. Cost to organizations is 5 cents a minute, and if message is left it is forwarded to e-mail. Jim Hopkins will make arrangements to have the Chamber be #1 on the list. Marlene Ferguson will handle recording the message. Next meeting will be at the Sodus Point Coast Guard Station on May 6 starting at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner meeting at Coopers. Reservations are needed by calling Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067 by May 4.

A great way to get kids involved in the kitchen, is by preparing a recipe that will satisfy their sweet tooth. Many children love the opportunity to measure, mix, and bake, and don't even mind the clean up afterward. Try this tasty treat with your kids.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large mixer bowl, beat peanut butter and butter until smooth, about 1 minute. Add sugar, eggs and vanilla, and beat until creamy. Blend in flour and salt. Stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips. Spread into ungreased 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake 25-30 minutes, or until edges begin to brown. Immediately sprinkle remaining morsels over cookie layer. Let stand 5 minutes until morsels become shiny and soft. Spread the rest of the chocolate chips evenly over top. Cool completely. Makes 48 bars.

Have a great week and enjoy spring. If you have any information you'd like to have added, please let me know.
