Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436)

Last week, Gord and I spent a couple of days camping at Southwick Beach with my sisters, Nancy and Linda. We enjoyed a boat trip to Boldt Castle, which is in the process of being restored to its original plans. At dinner time we ate at Riveredge in Alexandria Bay. We walked on the beach and in the evening we sat by the campfire relating fun times in year's past.

The new addition at Orbaker's food stand, on Route 104 in Williamson, is open. Now some of us older folks can enjoy, better, our hot dogs and steak burgers.

Eunice Ellsworth has returned to her Sunset Drive apartment, after a hospital stay. We want to THANK Eunice, for her contribution of materials. Some is headed for lap robes and hospital bags for those at the Veteran's Hospital. These are being created by members of Marion's Legion Auxiliary.

FABULOUS FRAGRANCES - Believing that it would attract the gods, the ancients used fragrant perfumes in their religious rituals. In fact, the word, 'perfume' as its origins in Latin, with per translating to 'through' and fumus meaning 'smoke'. This came from the practice of believers sprinkling perfume on animal carcasses during a sacrifice to the gods in order to mask the offensive odor of burning flesh. Of course, nowadays, we call that a 'cookout!' (Wolfe and Groesbeck)

Saturday: Skies opened and water backed into our basement. Hope for help!

Guest organist at the Second Reformed Church on August 1 was Ruth Bushart Townson.

Happy Birthday Wishes to Troy Meland, who celebrated his 10th birthday on July 28.

AUGUST 5, 1954 - Marion Merchants softball team is second in the Twin-County softball league with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

On Saturday, September 25, I am planning to have the Marion Museum open with a display of quilts and handiwork. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you wish to be a part of the activities, call me.

There were thirty-nine Bushart's at their reunion at the Marion Town Park on Sunday. Family genealogy was one of the topics of conservations.
