Busy agenda for Newark Chamber of Commerce
By Donna Comella

Erie Falcon Golf & Recreation was the site of the monthly luncheon meeting of the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce this week.

Co-Presidents Dawn Strait and Diana Lagenor were both on hand, and observed a moment of silence in memory of the late Ron Colacino. An active Chamber member and champion, Colacino died two weeks ago. Village Trustee Kurt Werts said that Newark officials are discussing possible projects that will memorialize and honor Ron. Everyone agreed that village officials, the Chamber and the Rotary Club could combine their efforts.

Chamber staff member Angela Fera is leaving her post, and members expressed their regret that they'd be losing her. The vacancy, a part-time position of four hours a day, five days a week, will be filled through Excel Staffing at 165 East Union.

Laci Kenville spoke about the Erie Falcon, formerly the Newark Country Club. She told members that there will be a brunch on Sunday, August 22, from 9 to 2, and that after September 1, the restaurant will be open for private parties only. The pool is open for the summer; public use is $7/day per person.

Committee members are needed to plan the Chamber's Annual Dinner Meeting to be held in October. Also, the Chamber is looking for people who want to lead the group. Candidates for President and Vice President are being sought.

Dawn Strait said the Chamber would like to move the date of the traditional Christmas Tree Lighting to coincide with the lighting of all village lights. The new date would be the Friday following Thanksgiving. The move will allow the Chamber to schedule the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra performance for the following Friday (Dec. 3).

Diana Lagenor suggested that florists and gift shops could hold special holiday Open House events for the weekend after Thanksgiving, to coincide with the Tree Lighting in Central Park.

Committee members of the Newark Farmers' Market were on hand to report a good season. The Market is open every Thursday from 1:30 to 5 at the Firemen's Field (just off Stuart Ave.).

The Chamber Board of Directors will meet Sept. 14, at a location to be determined.
