Happenings September 4 - Boys Soccer Tournament. JV games at 2 and 4, with varsity games at 6 and 8 p.m. Also German Club Pig Roast from 3-7 p.m. at the school. Safe Driving Course: Legion Memorial Post 1430 at 4141 Witherden Road, Marion & AARP are sponsoring a Safe Driving Course from 6-10 p.m. on September 15 & 16. Cost is $10. Special music at the Second Reformed Church on August 22 was provided by Shawn Burditt. He chose the hymn, 'Here I Am, Lord.' Wayne Rachow gave the children's sermon. Ladies of the Eastern Star that they will be frying up Reuzel Bollen at the Masonic Temple on North Main Street. I've heard that there are plans in the wind for a Street Dance to be held Saturday evening. 'French Fries' were introduced to the U.S. when Thomas Jefferson served them in the White House during his presidency (1801-09). Come to Mass - bring a dish to pass. Celebrate Patron Saint Gregory - Feast Day Sept. 3. A Mass will be offered at 8:30 a.m. at the church, followed by dish-to-pass breakfast in the church hall. Emilie Marie Clark, daughter of Matthew and Jenny (Roeland) Clark, was baptized August 1 at St. Gregory's Church. The roast beef dinners at the Legion Home start on September 10. Happy Birthday to Ethel Stone on August 24. September 26, 1944: Seniors completed last-minute plans for a booth at the Palmyra Fair with these as committee chairman: Gordon Morrison, Donald Hyman, Winifred Farmborough, Herbert Kennett, Harry White, Lorraine VanLare, Helen Nasmith, Genevieve Petty and Lester Bliek.
