Open House at County Museum The Wayne County Historical Society is holding a holiday open house on Sunday, December 5, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Old Jail Museum, 21 Butternut Street, Lyons. In the spirit of the holidays, there will be free admission to the museum, which will be decorated for the season. Guided tours by costumed docents will be held hourly on the hour. A spinning demonstration by Hazel Herdman will take place at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to those who successfully identify our 'What's It?' items a collection of antique tools and household implements. Festive music, including accordion selections by Alan Whitcomb, will be performed. Traditional refreshments will be served. Get a jump on holiday shopping by browsing our museum shop. Here are some great gift ideas: the book 'A Gathering of Memories,' which chronicles Wayne County town-by-town through the use of historic photographs ($25 or 2 for $40); 'Figured & Fancy: Weavers of Wayne County, New York' is a beautifully illustrated, full color book about the textile industry in our area ($15, softcover; $25, hardcover); outline maps of Wayne County suitable for framing are available for just $1. There are books for Civil War buffs, souvenirs for kids, and a limited supply of holiday ornaments, including a popular pewter wreath.
