Open House, and gifts at Arcadia Museum

Please visit the Newark-Arcadia Historical Museum on Saturdays, from 1 to 3 at High & Mason Streets, across from the Newark Public Library. Admission is always free, with donations gratefully accepted.

Curing and Caring: Hospitals, Physicians and Nursing in Newark will remain open through March. Three rooms are dedicated to this important part of Newark's history.

There are a variety of displays throughout the museum, including Jackson & Perkins Co., the C.H. Stuart Co., Newark Advertising, 1880-1960, Milk Bottles, Civil War artifacts, Newark High School, 1829 Map of Newark, historic quilts, Newark Souvenir China collection, and more.

The Museum Gift Shop has many items in stock. The new Country Schools 2005 Calendar featuring Arcadia Schoolhouses is available ($8). The popular Newark and Lyons Trivia book has been updated ($9.95). The new Civil War book, Ever True, by Lisa Saunders ($19.50), and music CD's by Dan Bailey and Avant-Garde Banjo Quartet's A Banjo Yuletide are new this year ($12).

The Holiday Open House takes place Sunday, Dec. 5, noon to 5 at both the museum and Marbletown Schoolhouse.

Museum (331. 6409) will be closed Christmas and New Year's Day, but will reopen Jan. 8.
