Happenings

We gathered at our family home on Maple Avenue for Thanksgiving Dinner. We enjoyed the familiar traditional dishes and even tried some new recipes. After we stacked the dishes, we spent time discussing holiday plans and watched some football games on TV.

You may wish to try this jam recipe to make gifts for friends who enjoy jam on their toast in the morning.

'Heavenly Jam'

Two oranges, one lemon, four cups finely cut peaches, 16-oz. can crushed pineapple, 6-oz. jar maraschino cherries, seven cups of sugar.

Cut the oranges and lemon into small sections, leaving the rind on. Remove the seeds, then chop fine in a blender. Place into a large saucepan with the remaining ingredients. Simmer uncovered until the fruit is translucent and the liquid has thickened. Seal or refrigerate. (Makes four to six 8-oz. jars.)

NOVEMBER 30, 1944: The Freshman Class at Marion High School held a party in the gym Monday. Committees were Shirley Cornell, Rosemary Doyle, Roger Tellier, Harry Beech, Loretta Bushart, Jeanette Bushart, Dorothy Brooks, Dolores Bushart, Earl DeWispelaere, Lee Weeks, Dolores Page, and Phyllis Brooks.

Don't miss the open houses: December 4-5 at Hunneybears, from 10 to 5; also (Friday and Saturday) at Cobble Ridge Antiques on Parker Road, The Leaning Barn in Marion, The Hen House in Williamson, Salmon Creek House and Good Old Days Country Shop, both in Pultneyville. Hours this eve. are 5 to 8:30 and Saturday 10 to 5.

About 550 peanuts go into one 12-oz. jar of creamy peanut butter.

June Young's family arrived here from their far-flung addresses, to spend time on their mother's birthday and to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday together.

Last week, I invited myself to see an advertised Sears home in Macedon. Lovely woodwork and windows with slight imperfections. It had a full-width front porch with hipped roof supported by columns and hipped-gable dormer in front. Let me know if you have information to add to our files.

December 7 - fourth-grade band winter concert at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School auditorium. Marion Community Christmas Committee will be collecting donations at this concert. Last year 43 needy families, including 94 children, were given food certificates and food baskets. Individual shut-ins received 117 poinsettias and seven large poinsettias were delivered to group homes. Donations may be made to Marion Community Christmas Program, to Helen Dingman 3355 Cory Hill Road, Marion 14505.

Thanks go to everyone who bought a Gingerbread House Christmas Ornament Kit to benefit Habitat.

'Few things are more disillusioning than learning Grandma's old family recipe came from Betty Crocker.'
