Area Blood drives

The American Red Cross is calling on all blood drive sponsors and donors to help avoid a blood shortage during the holiday season. The holidays are an extremely challenging time for the blood supply as donations traditionally decrease by 10 % between Thanksgiving and the New Year. If current collection conditions continue, the New York-Penn Region is predicting a possible shortage of Type 0 Negative blood for the holidays. Type 0 Negative is considered the universal blood type because it can be used to treat a patient of any blood type in an emergency situation. The American Red Cross has a number of blood drives scheduled in Wayne County before the first of the year.

These drives are:

  • December 22, Wolcott Baptist Church, Wolcott, 2 - 7.
  • December 23: Lyons VFW, Lyons, 1 - 6
  • December 27: Palmyra Western Presbyterian Church, Palmyra, 2 - 7
  • December 28: Marion American Legion, Marion, 2 - 7

To schedule an appointment to donate blood at any of these drives, please contact the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 331-3783.
