Missing Sodus

catWasn't that a great SuperBowl ?! My daughter and I picked the Patriots, and made sure to make our pick known days before. At the end, I thought just for a split second we'd picked the wrong team.

Of course, the groundhog says we will have more winter. Did we really need him to tell us that? (I always wondered how that works. If I was a groundhog, why would I come up out of my warm, comfy home to see if winter is still here?)

There are a lot of February birthdays:

Emily Clark's is the 8th; Lorrie Zone's is the l0th; Tom White's on the 13th; and Alice Clark has one on the 24th.

It was fun to see the Scouts in Church this weekend - brought back the happy memories of the kids being in Scouts, going to the meetings, the field trips and receiving the badges.... An educational experience.

dog The Kraft Shack: SCRAPBOOKING CLASS: Tues., Feb. 10; 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bring 4 to 6 pictures related to two different Christmas events. $25 includes all

There's a Sweetheart Sale at L.W. Emporium, 6355 Knickerbocker Rd, Ontario, February 7 through 21. Sale items displayed in lobby and booths with red heart tags.

Devilishly Delectable and Downright Delicious: It's a Chocolate Sale at the Sodus Free Library on February 12 and 13 from noon to closing. Donations of chocolate desserts will gladly be accepted from 10 to noon Thursday at 17 Maple Avenue. Direct questions to 483.9292.

I found a website that has a cute Rice Krispie Treats recipe for Valentines Day:

Valentine Rice Crispy Treats
Ingredients

  • 1/2 C Butter
  • 10 C Crispy rice cereal
  • 9 C Miniature marshmallows
  • 2 C Candy Hearts (the tiny red spice ones)
  • Candy Hearts (the ones with messages)
  • 3/4 C Miniature chocolate chips
  • Red food coloring

Melt butter and marshmallows; stir until smooth. In a large bowl, mix rice cereal, candy hearts (spiced tiny red ones) and miniature chips together. To marshmallow mixture, blend in 2 drops red food coloring, adding more coloring if necessary to reach desired shade. Add marshmallow mixture to cereal mixture; stir quickly to combine. Spread on a large buttered pan; press with buttered hands. While warm, press on candy heart (with messages) spaced 1 to 1/2-2 inches apart. Refrigerate and cut into squares.

Another fun idea for the little ones is if you have a heart shaped cookie cutter. Make their sandwiches into cute Valentine heart shapes. Since Valentine's Day is Saturday this year, you can make them for home.

Mark your calendar: The Chili Blues Fest is scheduled for Feb. 22 from noon to 4. Sponsored by the Great Sodus Bay Association and hosted at Skipper's Landing, this fund raiser sounds to be great fun for the whole family. Call 483.6391 for info and tickets ($15 per person).

How well do you know the Williamson Library? The library has 32,000 books including best-sellers, classics and dog the newest in health, technology and family life. Over 3000 videos - feature films, children's movies, classics and documentaries. Just think of all the wonderful books and videos you could borrow for those snowy weekends (which seem to be every weekend). Teaching Aid Bags... For teachers, parents, group leaders - anyone who needs a collection of books, tapes and activity materials on a subject. Call them with your topic, and they will put it all together for a 6-week loan period. Home delivery service... For those unable to come to the library, they have a list of volunteers who will bring the library to you...how wonderful! (Wasn't long ago we left the library with bags of great books to read and share.)

By borrowing books and movies from the libraries, and finding fun things to do, will hopefully make the rest of the winter as tolerable as we can. If you have ideas for making the winter weeks go by faster, please let me know. Write to me at

We'll take it one day at a time. (What does a groundhog really know about the weather, anyway.) Have a great week. Look forward to Valentine's Day - it brings us that much closer to spring.

Remember to keep our men and women in the service in your prayers.
