Newark police officers honored
By John Zornow
Police Chief Richard Bogan and Special Officer Anthony Bartucca

Mayor Peter Blandino opened Tuesday's village board meeting with a moment of silence for former Arcadia Supervisor Gerald DeBarr who died Saturday. Blandino referred to DeBarr as a 'friend of many.'

A highlight of the Feb. 17 meeting was the honoring of two police personnel - Anthony Bartucca and Steve Ross - for exceptional service. Police Chief Richard Bogan gave the Meritorious Service Award to Special Officer Anthony Bartucca.

Chief Bogan referred to several letters of commendation from police agencies that cite instances where Special Officer Anthony Bartucca has been alert and supplied information to the police agencies in their efforts to solve a bank robbery, apprehend a fugitive, make an arrest for criminal possession of stolen property. These arrests occurred in Monroe County where Bartucca has a tree and landscape business.

Bartucca is a charter member of Newark's Pac-Tac and one of the first Special Officers. He has contributed many volunteer hours to patrol and support of the Newark Police.

Investigator Steve Ross was named Officer of the Year. Bogan cited Ross's efforts to stem the tide of drug trafficking in the community. 'Two major seizures, cooperative enforcement arrangements, seizures of assets and vehicles, cultivation of intelligence and numerous felony arrests and convictions is successfully driving drug dealers out of Newark,' said the police chief.
