Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Now that the New Year is here, everyone has a fresh new start. They say New Year's resolutions don't always work... maybe too much pressure? Probably better to set goals for ourselves - more of a success rate.

It was nice to have a snow-free week, wasn't it? Would be great to have a light winter this year. (Seems strange writing '2004.' It'll take some getting used to.)

Ralph and Betty Everdyke seem to be enjoying the weather in Florida (of course, who wouldn't?).

Ralph and Betty's son, Reg and his family arrived Tuesday in Florida to visit them and within an hour the kids were in the pool. On Wednesday they went to Clearwater Beach for a swim in the Gulf and the kids picked up a lot of shells to take up north. When they got back from the beach, they all went to Catches for dinner:

'This is the restaurant that overlooks the Gulf. We had a very good dinner and the pelicans were out again. On Christmas Day, we stayed home and Santa Claus finally visited about 7 a.m. He was very good to all of us. We had a ham dinner with the fixings at home that day.'

On Friday, they left for Disney World about 7:15 a.m. They stayed right on the grounds and were there for 3 days. Monday morning they took off for North Carolina for Laurie's brother Jimmy to spend New Year's Eve with them. Ralph and Betty were expecting Ron and Micki Fagner for New Year's Eve.

(And Ralph thought there wasn't much to tell, sounds like a fun and busy time.)

dog The next meeting for the Sodus Chamber is scheduled for Jan. 8 at Nick's Restaurant starting at 6 p.m. Following the last meeting, a presentation was given by Sharon Lilla, Wayne County Planner. She provided a slide show and a discussion of Economic Development and Empire Zones within Sodus. Donna Chittenden, Sodus Supervisor, and Mike Sullivan, Sodus Point Mayor, were also in attendance and addressed the concerns that were raised. The Sodus Master Plan will be started in 2004 with the participation of Sodus Village, Sodus Point Village and the Sodus Township. Mary Jane Mumby is on the Master Plan committee and will keep the Chamber up to date as to the progress. They have many plans for events coming up in the next year.

Congratulations to Ruth and Jim Malone on the sale of their home and good luck with the fun adventure of moving into their new one in the spring.

The Kraft Shack has more fun ahead in the new year: WILTON CAKE COURSE II Four Nights (Must attend all nights) Tues., Jan. 13, Thurs., Jan. 15, Jan. 20 & Jan. 22, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Learn how to make flowers, borders and much more. $40 includes Course II kit, some other supplies are extra. Please remember to pre-register for all classes

Heluva Good News: While you're enjoying the festivities and great food, snap off a few photos of friends and family showing off the great taste of Heluva Good Dip and Cheese and then send us copies for the Heluva Good Community Cheese Cam. Be sure to show the package of the dip or cheese...

Not a lot to report. People are still enjoying their holiday time off. Thanks to everyone who sent me information for the column this week and all of last year. We have a whole new year filled with fun adventures and experiences.

squirrels Remember, any events you'd like to share, recipes, birthdays (nothing is too small), please send them along to me at

Remember our people who could not be home for the holidays. (Jacob Spencer wanted some snow on Christmas but I'm sure he enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.)

Have a great week.
