We didn't have to worry about getting into the spring-like weather. Winter has hit to let us know it isn't done with us by any means. (It's days like these that make you wonder why we are all up here freezing when we could be playing in a pool in the South...) The tree is down and the festive decorations are all put away for another year. Seems a little sparse and dull in the house. Did you know if you have any questions about you houseplants you can go to Better Homes and Gardens website bhggarden@email.bhg.com I had written to them about succulent plants. (I sometimes have problems keeping them going.) Better Homes and Gardens has tips for caring for those beautiful poinsettia plants you received for Christmas, too. Heluva Good News: Heluva Good just added another cheese flavor to its 8 oz. stick and 1 lb. block line up - Swiss Cheese in these two new convenient sizes, both in reclosable packages. It has a smooth texture and a nutty, mild flavor. Looking for something different for dinner? Mexican Dip is always a favorite around my house. You'll need some nacho chips to dip; hamburger (as much as you'd like); cheese (a block of cheddar); a touch of taco seasoning (how hot is up to you); and refried beans. Brown the hamburger, add a touch of taco seasoning with a tablespoon of water. In a large microwave-able bowl, spread the hamburger mix at the bottom. On the top of it, add the refried beans. Cut up the cheese into slices & place on top of the beans. Pop in the microwave until the cheese is melted. Spoon onto the plates, add sour cream and or salsa, get your chips and just start dipping and enjoy. (You could use Heluva Good cheese...) Happy January birthdays to Jim Malone and Amanda Dolan. Jim Malone and his wife Ruth are busy packing and getting ready to move into their new home in the spring. A great way to spend these cold, bitter weekends is to go to the library and get some good books to share. It's also a good time to plan your garden for the spring. The libraries have a large assortment of gardening books filled with ideas for making your gardens look wonderful all summer. Keeping a small note book and taking notes is a big help.Thinking about the nice months to come gives you something to look forward to. There are a lot of web sites on the computer as well that will be a big help. Are you thinking about taking skiing lessons?
