Missing Sodus Still another week of cold and snow. We will definitely appreciate spring this year. It is so nice when the sun does shine once in a while. Almost puts you right into shock when you see it. Reminder: Sodus Town residents can still recycle their Christmas trees at the Town Barn on Rotterdam Rd. Place your tree in the designated area through the end of the month. Sodus Chamber News: Save the date. The Sodus Chamber of Commerce will host a free encore presentation of Sodus Economic Development by Sharon Lilla from Wayne County Planning at 8 a.m., Thursday, February 12, at the Sodus WCTA Credit Union on Benton Place. It will be open to the public and a continental breakfast will be served. The presentation was given last November and the Chamber received many requests to repeat it. It was felt that a morning meeting would enable more of the public to attend. The presentation points out the many strengths and also the deficiencies of Sodus. Some of the details on how the master plan will be accomplished will also be discussed. A question and answer period will follow the slide presentation. It is important that all members of the community, not just Chamber members, be aware of the plans and strategies for the township and vicinity. The presentation is free and open to the public but reservations are needed since seating is limited. Please call 315.483.4067, 483.7256 or e-mail chamber14551@yahoo.com to reserve a place at this important gathering. Ralph Everydyke said he could see gopher turtles in a lot near his and Betty's condo in Florida. The turtles are protected in Florida, you have to move them to another area. A shell that is 2 feet across is pretty big. They look like an ordinary turtle, but they can get pretty large in size. Ralph said he has seen cars stop and a person would get out and move the turtle off the road. When the car was gone the turtles would be back in the road again. Something with a shell that size is not something you want to hit. You can search on line if you would like to see more information about the gopher turtles. There's a new donation box at Paton's Super Duper for the Humane Society. There's a list there so you know what to pick up while you're shopping. Monroe County's Seneca Park Zoo will have Animal Art Days, February 8-14 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. View displays by local artists and practice your artistic skills at this new event. Students will enjoy touch tables with art-related topics such as Colors, Textures, and Patterns as well as craft stations. Plus, catch one or two of the animal artists in action and see samples of their work. Teachers can help by having students make animal-related art projects to display at the zoo! Prizes will be awarded in age and creativity categories. Collect animal-safe art supplies and bring them to the zoo. Check out this link to our website for animal safe materials and use them during your visit to create art for our animals: www.senecaparkzoo.org/education/teachers/artsandmathdays.php Kraft Shack: Mark your calendar SCRAP BOOKING CLASS, Tues., Feb. 10, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Do something with those Christmas pictures. I had e-mailed Dana Christine for party information on a party I was having with a Tropical theme. You can get a lot of ideas from the Internet. An idea for a kid-friendly dinner recipe: soft tortilla pizza. Pre-heat the oven to 350. You need the small soft flour torillas from the refrigerator section of the grocery store; mozzerella cheese, shredded; pizza sauce and any toppings you like. Lay the tortillas on a cookie sheet or pizza pan; spread pizza sauce in the middle of the tortilla; add cheese and toppings; bake 'til the cheese is melted (about l5 - 20 minutes). If you have dinner ideas or other info you would like to share please write to me at Let me know how you manage to cope with winter. I have plants all over, fish tanks and a couple of birds and it's still tough. (Of course the ideal would be to move to somewhere tropical, but until I win the Lottery, I'm not counting on it. Have a nice week. Enjoy each others company and think warm thoughts. Copyright
