Museum Director Andrea Evangelist resigns
Evangelist, who began the job with a degree in human services, has developed innovative programming and taken on some unique projects that have increased interest in the Museum, a structure that served as the Wayne County Jail until 1960. Not only has the Society membership tripled, since Evangelist began her work in 1998, but the number of visitors who toured the Old Jail Museum has increased dramatically. Last year more than 8000 visitors toured the Museum and another 4500 learned about Wayne County history through the Museum outreach program offerings. The Hot Potties Outhouse Calendar, published in 2000, gained National attention and was sold to people in 46 states. Evangelist has also written two pictorial Wayne County History books, A Gathering of Memories, and Remembering Wayne, four ten-letter series of Pen Pal letters, an activity book for children, and the two-act play the Society produced in 2002 'The Trial of William Fee.' 'I have worked with wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed my time as Director, but want to spend some time pursuing other interests,' Evangelist said. 'I plan to stay on in the capacity of active volunteer,' she added. This summer Evangelist will be writing the script of the two-act play, Trial of Oliver Curtis Perry, an historic re-enactment of the trial of a notorious 19th century train robber. The play will be performed at the Wayne County Court House this October. Candidates for the Executive Director position should possess excellent computer and communication skills, have strong administrative and leadership ability, and be self-motivated, organized and energetic. Interested parties may send resumes to the Wayne County Historical Society, 21 Butternut Street, Lyons, New York 14489. The starting date for the position is negotiable. Copyright
