Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

snowOh, my gosh, will the snow never end?! It seems as if it will never stop. The people who ski and the snowmobilers should be happy. The two pictures here were sent to me from Al Dobbin in Sodus. We will really appreciate spring when it comes this year... probably around May.

Debra Ross WARM 101.3 has asked me to ask you about your Superbowl traditions with your kids - specifically, do you make any kid-friendly snacks for the Superbowl that you'd like to share with listeners? The food should either be stuff you make with your kids or munchies that your kids particularly love. If so, e-mail me a description of the snack, how it's made, and if there is anything special about this as a family tradition. Include your name and town, and I'll be passing it along to my contact there on WARM.

And take heart, the official end of winter is only 8 weeks away, though, of course, it ends 3 or 4 weeks later for us. (Ok, maybe it was a mistake to even bring this up...)

Save the Date: Class at the Kraft Shack: SCRAP BOOKING CLASS Tues., Feb. 10 6:30 to 9 p.m. Let's do something with those Christmas pictures. Bring 4 to 6 pictures related to two different Christmas events; $25 includes all Please remember to pre-register. Nice for keeping your own important memories and a great gift idea. It's so much fun to look back through them. People do so much and think they will remember, but don't always. Nice to have a keepsake book filled with things from pictures to ticket stubs, to jar our memories.

Tomorrow, January 31 there will be Saturday Crafts at the Old Jail House Museum, 21 Butternut St., Lyons. Contemporary Craft Class for ages 6-12. Pre-registration is required, so call today, 946.4943.

The Humane Society has Urgent Needs, including Foster Care Providers. The shelter is terribly over-crowded with cats and kittens. Read more about foster care opportunities and help if you can! The Foster Care Application is a pdf file. Download Adobe Reader if you need it. And while you're at the web site, check on their wish list. It includes such items as Laundry Detergent/Bleach; Antibacterial Dish Soap and Liquid Hand Soap; Paper Towels; Paper Cups/Napkins/Paper Plates.

I had read that instead of throwing away your towels and blankets you don't need anymore, to donate them to the Humane Society. They can put them in the animals' cages for them to lie down on, as well as for many other things.

Have you picked your team for tomorrow's big game? Now, all you need is some munchies:

Chicken wings with blue cheese dip (a Weight Watchers recipe for SuperBowl Sunday):

  • Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. table salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 pound Tyson Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast(s), or chicken tenders, cut into 2-inch- wide strips
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. hot pepper sauce
  • 4 large celery ribs, cut into 2-inch sticks
  • 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
  • 1/2 oz Gorgonzola cheese, or Blue cheese (about 2 Tbsp.), finely crumbled
  • Instructions: Preheat oven to 400 F. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Combine flour, salt and pepper in a shallow dish. Mix well with a fork to combine. Add chicken tenders (or breast pieces) and turn to coat.
  • Combine barbecue sauce and hot sauce in a separate shallow dish. Add flour-coated chicken and turn to coat. Transfer chicken to prepared baking sheet and spray with cooking spray. Bake 30 minutes, until chicken is cooked through.
  • Combine sour cream and cheese and mix well. Serve wings with dip and celery sticks on side. Yields about 2 chicken tenders and 1 tablespoons dip per serving.

Dill Dip (given to me by a friend at a party. My Aunt used to come up to visit and would bring a great dip with pumpernickel bread to dip in it. The kids loved it and fortunately, a friend had it at a party, so we can make our own anytime.)

A bag of chipped beef (found in the refrigerator section by the hot dogs and lunch meat), sour cream, dill weed, dried onions, mayo and, of course, the pumpernickel bread. 2 C mayo and 2 C sour cream; a touch of dill weed; 1 tsp. of dried onions and the chipped beef. Mix all together and refrigerate. Break chunks of pumpernickel bread, dip and enjoy.

Don't forget people love crackers and cheese. Heluva Good Cheese knows all about great cheeses and dips to get.

snowJanet sent me a picture of her newest member of her family she picked up at Thanksgiving he's so cute and his name is Patches. He's probably wondering how he's supposed to be housebroken when the snow is so deep. He's not sure what the ground even looks like. Our Boxer, Sarah, will just make it to the bottom step and then, watch out.

Anything you would like to share, please send along to me at mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

Try not to let the snow get you down. Maybe fill up a spray bottle with colored water and let the kids enjoy themselves making the backyard look like a giant snow cone.

Have a great week.
