Are you enjoying summer vacation? Nice it's not sweltering hot (perhaps just not a pool year). But there are a lot of other fun things to be doing. Hope everyone enjoyed the 4th, my son was invited to have fun at a cottage at Honeoye Lake while we stayed home and had dinner with flag napkins and red plastic plates for the occasion. Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Pie....from Weight Watchers (how fattening could it be?) Servings 10 Ingredients
1/2 cup reduced-fat peanut butter Ready Crust 25% Less-Fat Graham Cracker Ready pie crust Instructions 1. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together peanut butter and both types of cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in milk and lemon juice; fold in whipped topping and 4 tablespoons of mini chocolate chips. 2. Spoon peanut butter mixture into prepared pie crust; sprinkle remaining 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips over top. Cover with clear plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for at least 4 hours. (Note: Chill overnight if you prefer a firmer pie texture.) Slice into 10 pieces and serve. Talk about a small world... I received an e-mail from Beth Castle, so, of course, I just had to ask if they were related to Karen and Richard of Sodus. They are.... Karen & Rick are her husband's Uncle & his wife Aunt Karen with Johnny. Beth's mother-in-law is Freda Castle (Johnny's Godmother). Beth Lumadue (Castle now), ran cross country & track and graduated in 1990. She has two pictures up in the high school from us winning the Sectional meets in 1986 &1987 to proceed to States. Sodus Chamber News: Need new furniture? How about a few groceries? And could the car use some new tires? Get a raffle ticket from the Sodus Chamber of Commerce and any or all of these could be yours. First prize in the Faire Raffle is a $250 gift certificate from Barbara Jean's Furniture in North Rose, second prize is a $200 shopping spree at Patons Super Duper in Sodus, and the third prize is $100 off four tires or off repairs over $1000 from Sullivans Auto in Sodus. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available from any Chamber member, at the WCTA Credit Union in Sodus, and at the Sodus Chamber booth at the OLDE TYME COUNTRY FAIRE July 23 and 24 in Sodus. Winners will be drawn at the Olde Tyme Country Faire on July 24. Although you don't have to be present to win, you can stop at the Faire, have something to eat, start your Christmas shopping and be there if your name is drawn to collect your winnings. Proceeds from the raffle are used to help defray the costs of the Faire. See you at the Faire! Sunday, July 11 at the Alton Antique Center - FLEA MARKET starts at 8 a.m. Anything from Steuben glass to Milk bottles & coins - there is something for everyone. Stop in and see the collection of the month... free refreshments, free parking, clean restrooms and friendly staff. It's a great shopping spot. This weekend is Lyons Peppermint Days. The Kiddie parade is tonight at 6:30. Mark your calendars: For the outdoor movies at Sodus Point. On July 17 it's Spiderman. July 17 is also the Family Fest at Sodus Point. The fun begins at noon. At 1, Larry Moss will perform a balloon-twisting comedy stage show. At 2, there is Twisting of the Largest School of Balloon Fish ever created. And from 3 to 8, Larry will spend five hours constructing a balloon vampire to promote his Haunted House. At 3, Harley Newman will perform an outrageous clown act. And from 4:30 to 5:30, Smokehouse blues and rock-n- roll band plays classics ranging from the Temptations to Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. Troop 111 news: July 11 - 16, Summer Camp at Babcock-Hovey. This weekend Summer Concert Series at the Old Sodus Point Lighthouse is the Finger Lakes Symphony Pops Orchestra. Next weekend, it's the Rochester Scottish Bagpipes. July, 12-16 - Summer Kids Farm Camp at Cracker Box Palace, 8720 Wayne Center Rd., Alton, children ages 5-12 years old meet the animals. Do chores, clean pens, groom animals, learn about caring for animals. Art project will be done and enjoy a daily snack. Space is limited. Kids' Farm Camp week, daily 10 a.m. to noon. Looking for something different for your child to enjoy this summer? $75 for the week and your son or daughter will come home having learned how to care for the animals at the farm, create country crafts, and even ride a horse! New York is 'read, white and blue' for kids! Join the Summer Reading Program by registering at the library. Celebrate the wild side with music for the family by Tom Sieling July 14 at 2 p.m. (Of course, I just found out that the library has moved to its new location at 6380 Route 21... so, if you see someone who looks confused, it will be me trying to find it.) Sodus Library news: Children's Story Hour is held Monday mornings from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Encouraging a love of reading at an early age will enhance a child's entire life.
