Your Town Historian (yours truly) gave a program on Salt Dips last week at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Chris Shoales was in Marion, recently, visiting with his mother, Dr. Elbis Shoales and other family members. The Rev. Bill Hoffman was guest minister at the Marion United Church on July 18, while Rev. Dan is on vacation. Ralph Meluney was welcomed as guest organist. Congratulations to Amy (Claeysen) and Chittakone Sorvongsavanh who were married July 17 at the Marion United Church, on July 17. 'Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary Wishes' to Steve and Linda Schutt on July 21. The United Church is planning a 'Hymn Sing' worship service on August 8. 'If ants are so busy, how come they have time to go to so many picnics?' Isabelle Bushart has announced that the Aug. 12 trip to Old Forge has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The next trip is September 21, a Fall Foliage tour in Lewis County. This included both lunch and supper, a visit to Deer River Ranch, home of 1100 deer, and a stop at a one-room school house, the American Maple Museum and a visit to the village of Conrableville with historic buildings. And on October 12-14 It's time for Lancaster, again. 'Noah' is back! Enjoy a fabulous dinner and show at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater. There is planned an Amish buggy ride (weather permitting) and a visit to an Amish home and see beautiful quilts. On the way home we plan to stop at the Reading Outlets. Call Isabelle at 926.7764. One of my favorite flowers is the hollyhock. The most lovely ones are at Chuck and June VerPlank's on Witherden Road. Remember: the Pioneer Gas Engines reunion at the Marion Town Park on July 23, 24 and 25. Friday and Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 9 to 1. Admission is $2 per person, or a 2004 membership, and children under 12 get in free. For information on a booth for craft or flea market, call Dick Simmons at 926.4427. Helen Adriaansen has returned home following knee surgery. JULY 26, 1945: The prisoner of war camp on Buffalo Street has been completed and equipped for occupancy and is now in charge of Camp Commander Lt. Senerchia and his staff. About 100 prisoners were brought to the camp on Monday, most of whom will be employed in agricultural work. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #1430 has a few busy bees. The ladies made 19 lap robes, 15 catheter bag covers, five coverlets for the Veterans' beds. These and many more things have been delivered to the VA Hospital in Canandaigua. These ladies donate their time, materials and lots of loving care for our deserving vets. Thanks, Nancy Nevelizer, Elma Walters and Cathy Fonte. Past President Donna Prentice says 'thanks.'
