Newark Police have confirmed the death of local businessman and community leader, Ron Colacino. According to a statement from the department, investigators were called at 9:24 a.m. yesterday to a garage at 619 East Union Street (corner of Stansell). It was there that the 58-year-old Colacino was found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is under investigation by Newark Police and the Wayne County Coroner's Office. A former village trustee, Colacino owned Colacino Electric Supply and Home Lighting Center on West Union Street. He also owned several area commercial and residential properties. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Newark Rotary Club, the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce and the Newark Elks. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, son, Todd (Jill) Nittolo, and daughters, Sara (Dan) Visingard, and Kristy Colacino; grandson, Nicolas Nittolo; two brothers, Richard (Linda) of Newark, and Donald (Laura) of Colorado; several nieces and nephews. Friends will call Sunday, August 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller St., Newark. Father Peter Clifford will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, Newark. Interment will follow at Newark Cemetery. Copyright
