Happenings
By Carolyn Adriaansen (926.4436)

Virginia Combs and Isabelle Bushart led us on a merry time around Vermont, the 'Switzerland of North America.' Five fun-filled, busy days and nights were on the agenda. (Since neither group had enough travelers signed up, the company combined us with a group from Dearborn, Michigan.) The first tour was to the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory. When we pulled away, our motorcoach was loaded with Teddy bears, each one cuter that the one before. Some of the other highlights were the Shelburne Museum, where we would have liked to sign on for a trip on the Ticonderoga. Eats were wonderful and plentiful, wherever we went. We saw how cider is pressed, how Ben and Jerry's ice cream is made and how maple syrup is produced - all with samples, of course. (I never had the syrup on snow before; it is wonderful!)

I loved the tour of the Virginia State House and was taken aback at the Rock of Ages Quarries. Pictures and printed materials are available if you think you may travel that direction.

On May 18, a group of American Legion Auxiliary members of Marion Memorial Post #1430 placed more than 500 American flags on veterans' graves in Marion. These people were John Lonneville, Deane and Linoa Fisher, Larry Walters, Sandy and Jeff Lonneville, Don Tennity, Donna Prentice, Dennis and Kathy Weeks, Hugh and Ann Burlee and Cathy and Mike Fonte.

The East Palmyra Christian School's Almost Annual Pig Roast will be held this evening at the school (2023 East Palmyra-Port Gibson Road, Palmyra).

Last week we were away, leaving during a rain storm and with water in the basement, but we did have a lovely get-away. When we returned we found that our family had pumped out the cellar and scrubbed away the silt AND put carpet down in the upstairs bathroom. I am making another list of projects and places we may like to visit.

Real discipline is when you can pick strawberries without eating them.

June 8 - Marion Eighth Grade Recognition night, 7 p.m.

June 10 - Cabaret Night, 7:30 p.m., in the High School gym.

JUNE 4, 1915 - Over 1000 attended the dedication of the Helen D. Green Memorial Chapel, Sunday, thus expressing the general appreciation of the generous gift made by Miss Love F. Seymour of Rochester.

Ralph Meluney was guest organist at the Marion United Church on May 30.

Vic Mason was a patient at the Clifton Springs Hospital.

For their final gathering this season, the Lunch with the Ladies of the United Church, will be held at Taranwould on June 8. All ladies are invited to join for good food and informal conversation.

June 5 - The CANALTOWN CHORALE will present a spring concert featuring American Folk music. The performance will be held in the Latter Day Saints Chapel on Temple Road in Palmyra. Several special small group numbers will also be performed. Refreshments will be served. Come and enjoy familiar folk tunes, costumes and fun.

'Happy Birthday Wishes' to Bev Layton on June 4 from all her friends.

The Church School at the Marion United Church will hold their Worship Service and picnic on June 6. Following the Come for a Picnic service at the church, all will adjourn to the Town Park for food and fun. THANKS to church school leaders, teachers and helpers for another excellent year of service.
