Missing Sodus
The Williamson Fire Dept. will start their annual Fund Drive next week. Firemen will be in your neighborhood soliciting donations. Please give generously. Tomorrow (Saturday, June 5) is the Sale Around the Point. The community-wide garage sale starts at 9 a.m. (You can get a map at The Pit Stop, Krenzer's or one of the participating homes.) We see that someone is opening what used to be Gator Moe's at Sodus Point. The new place opens this weekend and is called O'Riley's Waterfront. We wish them well. Also tomorrow is the Sodus Bay Yacht Club's Antique & Classic Boat Show. Starting at 10 a.m., there will be antique and classic runabouts, racing boats, canoes, and sailboats, demonstrations, food, wine tasting, music, and a Marine Gear Sale and Flea Market. SBYC members will be giving boat rides on 18 sailboats, to visitors who make a $20 contribution to the GRHC Hospice charity. While you're at the Point, stop in and see the exhibit of watercolors by Brian Petty and Cheryl Miller. The Gallery at the Point is at 8515D Greig Street. Tonight and tomorrow is the Wayne County Relay for Life at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra. Relay for life is a fun-filled, overnight event to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research & programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event teams of people (from businesses, clubs, families, friends churches and schools, etc.) will gather at the fairgrounds to take turns walking or running laps. Activities are planned through the night including the kick-off survivor and caregiver laps and reception, various musical entertainment and, at 10 p.m., the Luminaria Ceremony of Hope. The public is welcome to attend. Saturday & Sunday (June 5-6), will be the 1st Annual Animal Faire, 9 to 5 each day, at Alasa Farms. There's be a Hoe-Down Saturday night, 7-11 p.m., hosted by Big Dog Country 103.5 FM. Admission is $10/day, or $18 for a weekend pass! The event is co-hosted by the Cracker Box Palace and Alasa Farms and will include demonstrations, exhibits, a wide variety of vendor booths and professional services. DIRECTIONS: Route 104 to Rte. 14 North, bear right on Shaker Road, and follow Shaker north all the way to the end - Alasa Farms is on the left! Sunday (June 6), there's a Chicken Barbecue at Wallington Fire Dept. on Ridge Rd. They'll serve from noon until 4 (or until sold out). Take outs or eat in. $6.50 full dinner, Children $3.50, Half $3.50. During strawberry season, the Apple Shed offers customers the opportunity to pick their own strawberries fresh from the strawberry patch. Strawberries typically ripen mid-June and are around for approximately 3-4 weeks. Call for specific harvest dates and U-Pick hours. The Apple Shed has 8 varieties. They also have a wide range of country craft items including Village Candles, Gooseberry Patch cookbooks, Ann Clark cookie cutters, dried flower wreaths and arrangements and wood crafts. The Apple Shed is a great place to do your gift shopping! If you want to make your own pizza you can use the frozen bread dough for pizza crusts (follow the directions). There are a lot of different ways to make the crust and, of course, there are always the pre-made ones. Oil or spray your pizza pan and cover the crust with your favorite toppings and sauce. (I use the pizza sauce from the store), then top with mozzarella and all your other favorites. Or maybe try these from Weight Watchers web site: BBQ Chicken Pizza. Cover crust with a thin layer of BBQ sauce. Sprinkle chopped cooked chicken breast, chopped red onion, minced cilantro and shredded smoked mozzarella (optional) over top before baking.
Hawaiian Pizza. Drain 1 large can pineapple rings. Place rings on crust. Sprinkle with chopped Canadian bacon, thinly sliced scallions, and reduced-fat Swiss cheese (optional) before baking. Dessert Pizza. Spread fat-free hot fudge or caramel sauce thinly on dough; cover with sliced bananas and bake. Let cool 5 minutes before serving. There are a lot of fun things to do this weekend. Stay safe and enjoy the time you have with family and friends. Remember the family members who are in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you have anything you'd like to share I'm right here
