Summer tours planned in Lyons July 6 through August 27, summer tours leave from the Old Jail Museum, 21 Butternut Street, Lyons, Monday to Friday at 1 p.m. Saturday tours are by appointment only and should be scheduled no later than 4 p.m. on the preceding Thursday. The topic for the Saturday tour will be chosen on a first come first served basis. To schedule tours or to obtain more information, call the Jail Office at 946.4943, Monday-Friday, 10-4. Tickets are available at the Society office Monday-Friday, 10-4. Tours are $2 per individual with a $10 limit for a family. Monday, Wednesday, & Friday: Locks and Legends This is a 45-minute walking tour that includes Lock #27. The tour guide will recount a brief history of the canal and its impact on the growth of Wayne County, and tell stories that bring the canal era alive. Tuesday & Thursday: Bedrooms & Ballrooms: A Tour of the County Seat This 45-minute walking tour includes the former home of H. G. Hotchkiss, The Peppermint King, artist Emma Rice Rudd, and other prominent residents of 19th century Lyons. Saturday Tours: Should be scheduled no later than 4 p.m. on the preceding Thursday. The topic for the Saturday tour will be chosen on a first-come first-served basis. Daily: Old Jail Tours begin at 2:30 each day. The charge for the tour is $2 per individual but are free to Wayne County Historical Society members. Visitors will tour the Old Jail (circa 1854) and exhibits that are housed in the attached Sheriff's home.
