Happenings Several sad events have claimed the lives of five of our town's children. The town gave three maple trees to the Elementary School to be planted in memory of Matthew Freeland, Nate Macaluso, Amanda Schermerhorn, Kimber Drier, and Chanda Lee Drier. The trees were planted behind the school on June 4. Congratulations to all students and teachers who participated in the 'Stars of Tomorrow' ceremony. Out of 41 schools, Marion was selected to perform a short excerpt of 'Crazy For You.' Awards were presented for best dance ensemble, best stage crew and best featured ensemble - the Cowboy Trio. Special congratulations to Nate Boerman and Lyle Lake who were backstage crew for the festivities and to Cody Gardner and Dannis Matteson, our 'Stars of Tomorrow' singers and dancers who performed in the opening and closing number. MCS track stars - congratulations to Ellen Muster on a sixth place finish in the steeple chase, Tim Moran on a fifth place in the 110m hurdles, and Nolan Kearns for ninth place in the triple jump at the NYS meet. We are trying to set up a schedule for workers and meals for those helping on Marion's Habitat for Humanity home on Eddy Ridge Road in Marion. There are usually eight workers at the site. On Tuesday, they completed the outside walls, so now it's beginning to look like a house. Of course, there will be all kinds of projects to do inside and out - wall boarding or painting, roofing or plumbing. Surely, there is something that is your passion - call us! Graduate recognition was part of the worship service at the Second Reformed Church on June 13. Legion baseball is underway. Our Marion team will have the chance to play teams both in and out of Wayne County. A wonderful opportunity. Remember that Coach Devlin takes anyone that wants to play without a charge. Also, he has to raise over $1000 to pay for the home umpires. Plan to get Cookbook #5 at $2 and support the other projects that are being planned. You can call me about the cookbook or get them when you attend a game 'on the hill.' 'Marion schools' is the topic of a collection at the Museum Saturday morning, from 9 to noon. Pictures, yearbooks and articles on events and people who attended Marion schools from earlier days until now. Matt and Jo Shaff are inviting everyone to a United Church picnic and camp-out at their home at 3584 Boss Road on Friday evening, June 25. Bring your tents, and /or campers, games, chairs and food for a potluck dinner. Pearl and Hank Ververs attended Doug and Jane's 25th Wedding Anniversary open house at Granby Fire Hall on June 5. There were 43 family members and friends attending. Jim Ververs finished his second year at the U of R with a 97.5 average. Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County would like to thank the Mission Committee of St. Gregory's Church. Your donation from your Lenten Soup Suppers was greatly appreciated. 'Some people can spend years putting off a 10-minute job.' Happy Birthday to Jody Bender on June 23. Isabelle Bushart has planned a bus trip for August 12 to Old Forge with a Deluxe Lunch Cruise and a train ride. And September 21 a Fall Foliage tour in Lewis County.
