Picnic at Gardens on July 4

The grounds of Sonnenberg Mansion and Gardens in Canandaigua will be open to visitors looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with old-fashioned picnic fun from 6 to 8 p.m. Independence Day

Dubbed 'Flags and Fireflies Stroll,' the event will feature the Fort Hill Band playing patriotic and other appropriate tunes on the Mansion veranda. Other entertainment will include Victorian games

Guests are invited to bring their own picnic fare; they'll be able to purchase light refreshments, including ice cream, popcorn, soft drinks and cookies.

Organizers promise an ideal evening for guests looking for an opportunity to marvel at the gardens, tour the mansion and learn about its first occupants and Canandaigua's most prominent citizens, Mary Clark and Frederick Ferris Thompson.

Admission is $5 per person, with a maximum of $20 for a family. No charge for children under 5.

The Council of Friends of Sonnenberg, sponsor of the event, will use all proceeds to support Sonnenberg activities.
